Winter Foot Care Tips…

Winter Foot Care Tips…

  • Keep feet clean and dry… In the colder weather it’s tempting to wear extra thick socks but this can cause our feet to sweat, even in the cold, creating a breeding ground for fungal infections such as athlete’s foot. Moisture wicking socks, such as Marino Wool, are important to keep feet from getting sweaty in thick winter socks. Change damp socks as soon as you have the chance.

  • Invest in good winter shoes. Make sure they’re waterproof, sturdy and supportive with good grip. Pull on ice grips can be added to the bottom of shoes to make them grip better in icy conditions. If your footwear gets wet, be sure to let them dry out completely before re-wearing them.

  • Wash and moisturise your feet regularly. Dry winter air can play havoc with your skin so it’s important to keep it well hydrated with a good moisturiser. At Faversham Feet, we recommend using a moisturiser with at least 10% urea for daily use and 25% urea for hard cracked heels. If you’re not sure what to use, please speak to us and we’ll be happy to advise you. We also stock a small range of our preferred products for purchase.

  • Never warm cold feet on a radiator or an uncovered hot water bottle and don’t be tempted to immerse them in hot hot water. Chilblains can be painful and itchy and are a common problem this time of year as a result of trying to warm up too quickly. Use warm socks and blankets to warm feet slowly.

  • Avoid nail polish. At this time of year, when feet are no longer on display, it’s a great time to let your nails have a well deserved rest. Just remember to keep them trimmed and if you have signs of a fungal nail infection, speak to a professional who can advise you on the best course of treatment.
